This is a "No Vacation" tournament!

Well, we're back at it.  Play well.  Keep up on your moves.  Have fun.  Say "hi."  Say "hi" back.  This tournament is for people who want to play chess with other people who want to play chess--don't join if you need breaks.  Don't play if you don't want to interact with others.  Please play.  We've had relatively good success with these tournaments; let's keep it going.  As soon as we have a good group of players i'll kick it off.  If you don't fall in the ratings window or if your rating changes after you join, but before we start--sorry we're sticking to the ratings on this one.

looks like the top three from each group has been locked.  well done to the 6 players moving on.  very tight finishing lads.  my kind of tournament.  well done.  still a few games to be finished up in the first group but nothing left can alter the outcome.

ps Diet_Coke will not be asked to remove himself from the tournament.  although he does play at a level a bit higher than the tournament calls for, i look forward to playing him in the next round.  everyone else i've talked who i smoving on, seems to have the same sentiment...

good luck all

doug1219 brings up a good point.  although he is not asking for Diet_Coke to resign the tournament, he's probably going to finish fourth in his group.  which leaves him high and dry.  i feel bad for the people in this position.  again, not the ned of the world, but it still does suck a bit.

So...  Diet_Coke, a player in our tournament joined us as a 1500 player but normally plays as a 1700.  i'm not totally bothered but by this but it perked some interest.  so i did some diggin'.  a few months ago he resigned about 100 games and fell to a really low rating.  then i guess he didn't play much but is now back.  he's got his rating to the high 1700s and doesn't look to be dropping anytime soon.  i know this isn't the ned of the world, but it's "something" that he's playing with us.  he has offered to drop out of the tournament and not play in the second round.  although i think it was a bit sneaky to join us (on some level) i tend to think he's been pretty cool about it since i talked to him and that it's probably not necessary that he quit.  i'd like to run it by everyone and see what you all think.  please let me know where you all stand and then we'll decide.
