Getting Started with Monastery
Hi everyone, and thanks for joining this tournament! We have a fantastic turnout and I hope everyone really enjoys playing the new Monastery variant.
I wanted to give everyone a few pointers to get started:
First off, at the start of the game your pieces are on the other side of the board from you. So if you are sitting at a board with a hoard of black pieces in front of you, you are playing white and it is your move first.
You will notice that because of this arrangement your 4 center pawns are already across the center of the board and the only thing between them and promotion to 4 additional queens are your own pieces.
Of course, the same is true for your opponent.
