- Philip secretly executed Gordianus, who was at war with Persia.
- Philip erected a monument to Gordianus on the Euphrates and deified him.

- He returned to Rome to be confirmed by the senate.
- During his reign, Rome celebrated its millennium.
- Philip was betrayed and killed at the Battle of Verona in 249.
