There are a ton of “Mornings With…” programs out there. I have my own favorite—Mornings with Dvoretsky’s Endgame Manual. Now, I have never before been a fan of the endgame. In fact, I think I hated end games before. But reading Dvoretsky is like treasure hunting! I’ve discovered that the endgame is really a fascinating area of chess. It’s fascinating, but that doesn’t mean it comes easy to this old, dumb, dog. In fact, most mornings I feel that I am on the verge of wasting my money by finally discovering that this book is beyond me. While it very well may be, somehow I’ve managed to muddle through every position that I initially thought unfathomable. The following is a case in point. So I offer this for others out there, struggling with the mysteries of the end game, in the hopes that it could be instructive:
