IV. Which colour of squares for the pawns? For & against Capablana's rules
Capablanca established the following guidelines for the placing of the pawns:
- if our opponent has a bishop but we do not, we must put our pawns on squares of the same color as that opposing bishop.
- But if we have a bishop, then the pawns should go on squares of the opposite color, regardless of the opponent's bishop.
