Pirc with Bc4 AND Be3 conbination

Hi,

All Pirc players know the "paper tiger" White Bc4 -< it is undefended, easy target. Usual answer is to continue ... Bg7, Nc6...

And everyone knows that Be3 is going to attack h6 with Queen backing up, and all the books say you should avoid castling, and fiancettoing into this danger...

Now what if white plays both? You have already commited yourself with Bg7, and probably moved queenside knight to c6... Big no no's in both variations.

Let make it even harder, lets add f3, white heading for pawnstorm against kingside castle.

If original Bc4 made you move Nc6 you would be really hoping that you would have moved c6 instead...

I have checked all the major Pirc books and none seem to have this combination, but I have met it many times already...

My usual solution has been "when in doubt- attack", so I have attacked center with e5. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

So you other Pirc defenders, have you encountered this and what is you approch to "paper tiger - 150 attack" -combination?

Would white play Bc4 or Be3 first?

If Be3 first then c6 as usual, and now if Bc4 then b5 comes with tempo.

If Bc4 first then Bg7 as usual, and now Be3 wouldn't make a lot of sense because after black castles he is threatening the old Nxe4 followed by d5 fork trick, equalizing on the spot. I suppose white could play f3 here and try for long castling...but the usual c6, b5 pawn advances by black would again come with tempo on the light squared bishop.

Knight fork works without f3, but

"The usual c6, b5" would be nice if Bc4 don't make you play Nc6..

1. e4 d6
2. d4 Nf6
3. Nc3 g6
4. f3 Bg7
5. Bc4 Nc6
6. Be3

That's a rather strange move order there with 4.f3

If 4.f3 perhaps playing 4...c6 is best as white is probably going to castle long. Maybe even a waiting move like 4...a6 is best. Both get ready to hit the bishop with b5 if it decides to go to c4, and both advance queenside play should white castle long. White should castle long in such positions as playing f3 so early really slows down his kingside piece development.

4.f3 was old style, when it was thought to necessary against Bg4.

If white is going to play f3 so early he should probably do it on move 3. 3.Nc3 and 4.f3 seem a bit redundant and basically do the same thing while impeding the rest of white's pieces. 3.f3 is quite reasonable when black should be prepared to transpose to a samisch king's indian with 3...g6 4.c4

Yes, you are right, but if 3.Nc3 is first played, you don't expect samich anymore...

As in moves I wrote, white seems to open all the doors, and I'm shuting them. But game is controversial.

I have had few similar ones mixing Bc4 and Be3.
