Problems with the Sicilian defense

I'm a relatively new chess enthusiast, and I've been studying and implementing various openings and defenses to determine which ones prove the most complementary to my style of play. The Sicilian defense, although highly recommended for black against the e4 opening by white, has proved problematic for me when white continues with unorthodox lines (i.e. 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d5 3. Bb5+ or Bc4). Can someone recommend successful lines for black following these bishop moves?

Thanks!

Thanks for the assistance! I will follow the links you have provided and continue to learn. I have played the French, as well, and it is a very nice opening. I should work with it more often. And yes, I did intend to type d6: I apologize for the error!
