i play the c3 sicilian and the austrian attack but im facing this guy that start with g6, Bg7 and do waitingmoves. if i play Nc3 at some point he plays c5 and i cant use my c3 sicilian. on the other hand if i keep c3 available and do something like Nf3 instead he goes into pirc/modern stuff and since i played Nf3 i got no austrian attack. should i just abandon the austrian attack?
In this case I would look for waiting moves for white or go for f2f3 setups.
That can work fine against Pirc/Modern (Saemisch) as well as against Sicilian (English attack).
I like it very much myself. f2f3 is flexible and solid. It covers the e4 pawn, and it prevents a possible Ng4 or Bg4, and gives you the g4 push option. And you can still choose to play 0-0 or 0-0-0 after f2f3.
Here's an example of a game with f2f2, where I played an idea that I saw in a game from GM Timman years ago.
White plays Ng1-e2-c1-b3.
