Why is it in high level play that involves the sicilian black always ends up losing.

lolurspammed

Any statistics to back up that statement?

Nakamura just won with it.

I think the OP has made an interesting observation. I believe that it may be because white Sicilian wins are often quite pretty featuring swashbuckling play that end up being showcased, while black wins are not so glamourous and feature dogged defence and an endgame conversion.

I remember once getting a book called "100 Soviet Miniatures" by PH Clarke from the library and it featured a chapter called "Sicilicide" where white won quickly against the Sicilian. For years after I wouldn't consider the Sicilian Defence.

nakamura's opponent forgot why the dragon was so bad

Also, high level play is very situational.  Most of those GMs could play any opening under the sun.  However, one should choose what best suits the situation.

I doubt that anybody could "VALIDLY" argue against the fact that if you are Black, and you are in a must win situation, where a draw is as good as a loss, that the Najdorf Sicilian is your best bet.  It's riskier and has a higher percentage of losses than 1...e5, but it also leads to better chances at a win for Black.

However, if all you need is a draw, especially in the final round of a tournament, then it makes more sense to play 1...e5.  Wins for Black are pretty rare here, but White still only wins about a quarter of the games to maybe 10 to 15 percent for Black, and the rest draws.

statistics are not important

To some extent they are.

If you had 2 computers both rated over 8000, every game would likely be a draw.

The human element of room for error is greater in more complicated positions, and therefore lead to more decisive results.

Differentiating between an opening that scores 54.8% for White versus 54.6% for White is irrelevant - Play what you know, not what scored 2/10 of a percent better in the past.

However, differentiating between an opening with a 70% draw ratio and an opening with a 40% draw ratio, like the Petroff versus the Najdorf Sicilian, is indeed important based on the situation at hand, especially in a final round.

I was looking at the variations and i got to say the Najdorf seems like the best of the lot. What do you guys think of it?

Najdorf, taimanov, Sveshnikov, kan, dragon, accelerated dragon and classical are all great choices for black.

OP is really misinforming people and an idiot. Vachier Lagrave is number 11 in the world and uses the Sicilian practically every game against e4.

I think nowdays Scheveningen, Kan and Taimanov are your best bet if you are trying to win. Dragon, Najdorf, Sveshnikov are also great but have been explored in great detail, and the rest of the Sicilians like the classical, Accelerating Dragon, Hyper-accelerated, O'Kelly etc etc are a bit dodgey. Also remember that to get to open sicilian you have to pass by all the anti-sicilians.

Sicilian is the opening to play against e4. And I think no one will argue with this. But I fear someone will.

Lies I am going to argue about this lol.

Karpov made World Champion with the most devastating opening.

1...c6

Caro-Kann

Playing the move 1...c5 is simply a mouse slip someone tryed to play 1...c6 and mouse slipped and over extended to c5.
