Sicilian Kan

Sort:
Antibody

I am trying to put together a repertoire against  1.e4 with the sicilian Kan as the main opening. Does anyone have suggestions against the other ani sicilian lines like the closed, alapin etc., Are there any books out there with this sort of approach. With thanks, Ken.

Kan concepts won't help you at all when facing the Alapin.

Can you suggest another sicilian line to get started with. I haven't played the Kan a lot but when I have played it. It seems to make sense. It seems very flexible. I do get behind in development though. Thanks for your comments, Ken

TwoMove

The most flexible sicilian by Delchev, gives black some suggestions for just about everything after 1.e4 c5 2Nf3 e6. Pallister's book on anti-sicilians give suggestions for players with e6 open sicilian in rep too.

Both these last two books look at 3c3 d5 4pxp Qxp, or 4e5 d4. Can play in more straightforward french style, i.e 4pxp pxp with a Tarrasch French were white has played c3 very early. Black can use this to keep bishop on active a7 to g1 diagonal after 5pxp Bxc5. After 4e5 just allow white to play d4 himself with an advanced french.

Earlier Delchev books looked at 3c3 Nf6 4e5 Nd5 5d4 pxp 5pxp d6. Personally didn't find this line very comfortable for black.

The Sicilian Taimanov doesn't have the "glam" (glamor) as other systems, but it is solid. Plus it is readily transposable with the Kan.

Thanks everyone for your kind help. I am starting to understand now the link between the Kan and the Taimanov and just downloaded a sample from the flexible sicilian by Delchev recommended by TwoMove the information in the table of contents is enough to get started. Thanks again.

I just got this, quite helpful for 2...e6 players. It does come in chessbase/pgn format, which I got.

I also bought Play The Sicilian Kan by Johan Hellstein. There is an electronic sample of the book in the link below, which you can look at with Chessbase Reader or the Everyman Chess reader.

If you want something to go well with the Kan, try the Kant.

Kant played 1 e4 c5 2 Nf3 e6 3 d4 cxd4 4 Nxd4 a5

TwoMove

1 e4 c5 2 Nf3 e6 3 d4 cxd4 4 Nxd4 a6, in recent world championship game after 5c4 Nf6 6Nc3 Bb4 7Qd3 black played the recommendation of Delchev book with 7...Nc6 8NxN dxc6 9QxQ KxQ 10e5 Nd7 improving with bf4 rather than f4. Guess black has to try 7...Qc7 8a3 Be7 instead. All the same indicates to me the Kann lines are generally weird and inferior to the Taimanov  lines. Will be reserving the early a6 attempts for lower rated opponents.
