Hope you will forgive the biased view, as Gold member Tongue out

I was thinking that may be the Chess.com team could reconsider the thresholds for computer analysis. Currently, a Basic member is entitled to 1 analysis a week, a Silver/Gold to 2, and a Diamond/Platinum to 25. This ratio sounds a bit…weird to me – don’t know what you guys think, but I think it would be lovely bumping up a bit the level for Silver/Gold!

I know this is not a democracy, therefore Erik and the staff will do whatever they think is best, but I would be interested in hearing your opinion on this!

Cheers,

Andrea

I would suggest getting yourself some good free software. Arena and Rybka 2.something_or_other should do all your analysis needs on a PC. Then you can analyse as many games as you want and probably get better results. If you want to spend some money on the problem buy Modern Chess Analysis by Robin Smith and stick to the free software.

Thanks for your post, Sharukin - good point there. I have Fritz 11, so in effect I do analysis with it. But I think it is still very convenient to have a quick run with the chess.com engine, when a game is over...

Having used the chess.com engine I can say it generally isn't a quick run! If you want a quick run get the free Rybka 2 thingy, stick it into the Fritz interface and run blundercheck on your games. 5-15 seconds a move with a value of about 0.25 of a pawn should produce faster results. Not having a PC, I use HIARCS within the Shredder interface on my Mac for a quick overview of a game.

Thanks again, Sharukin – I guess I will stick to Fritz as suggested, not a bad idea at all!

Thanks also to you, Laporte, and apologies for having preached for my home town, you are spot on there…

andreacoda - yes, it is convenient on chess.com. i use it all of the time :) we don't bump it up more because it is actually quite an expensive feature! sure, you can use free software, but it is easy on chess.com with a simple interface. when i pick a game to run it takes about 20-30 minutes and BINGO - results.

enjoy!

I think the idea is ...

Basic - get a taste of the features.

Gold - Have analysis of your real interesting games.

Platinum - Can analyze everything ...

From that perspective the numbers are good.

The problem with the chess.com analysis feature from my point of view is that I cannot interact with the engine while analysing. I find that playing with positions with the engine running in the background gives a much better feel for things than just setting the thing going and waiting until it has finished.
