Rude behavior in chat

Sort:
Bizarrebra

Hi,

I just wanted to ask what kind of measures are taken against rude players that use to insult when playing. Some may say that you can always disable the chat, but well I do not think that is the solution. There are a lot of nice people, and I am glad you can at least say hello, but there are some others that simply insult, and I do not want to disable the chat because of them.

I have just finished a game against a guy called [no naming and shaming], and the guy just made his first move and threw a "[no swearing in public forums]". Just like that. I asked him an explantation, and he kept on insulting the whole game, and then abbandoned when he was losing. I thought he was a teenager, but the guy must be around 50. He has on his wall a couple more of complaints of people that he has insulted.

We must not tolerate this kind of behavior. I am paying a fee to play and learn chess and to have a good time, not to be insulted for no reason.

I strongly think that Chess.com should take some measures agains this kind of "players".

Thanks.

@x2..that doesn't always work.  I have a good run of games within the last month (NOT this week due to schedule at home ), won many sharp players, and all i heard was "YOU cheated !" over and over and over. According to their resources, my moves were more accurate, according to the analyzes results.  Get real, sometimes we play sharp, other times, we don't.

All one has to do is look at the masters.  They have slumps and they have peaks.   I've never used an engine, and I'm sure some ppl who win and accused of cheating, dont either.

On a side note, x2, using caps online is often considered shouting.  You were abit loud. :)

Is it not possible to select specific players you don't want to receive chats from ?

Can you not disable i.e atahirovic , but allow other to chat ?

I think you can block players but that way I get rid of the problem... and someone else will have to suffer him again. What I'm asking if is there is some measures taken against these players that spoil this site.

Thanks.

Hi riuryK,

I'm sorry to hear about his behavior :( Depending on what the person did there are a variety of different actions that we take.

They range from a regular warning to removing a member's ability to post and chat on the site to actually shutting down their account for abuse.

What we recommend is that rather than post their names and what they said/did in the forums, to contact us here - http://support.chess.com/Tickets/Submit and give us (staff) all the relevant information that you have.

Do you think you could do that for me? Then we can have everything on record and take appropriate action against the member.

I get your point , but I think it might be technically/legaly difficult for the Chess.com administrator to do something about it. You cannot expect him to scrutenize all the chatting that goes around. What if he has payed his membership ? Do you expell him and return (part/none) of his money ?

RiuryK , I'm with you and I hope Chess.com will come up with a solution to this annoying problem.

hey once i beat a guy in bullet live and he kept calling me names and saying that he is in the mossad and that he will kill me etc....i contacted chess.com support and the moderator i talked to sayed that she would warn him and if he repeted it he would get banned...that's what u should do :PP   moreover it is a good idea too copy the hole chat and then paste it on the complain towards chess.com support.... hope i have helped :)))

I do apologize for messing up this thread with my nonsense. This is not the place to discuss politics.

Stay on topic please.

I totally agree, 4 insultive or annoying chess players i think it only reasonable that that player plus their entire blood-line from parents/siblings and off-spring should be permanently deleted from the genetic gene pool...

So while that explains what "reasonable-actions" might be 'acceptable' against account holders, let me also explain a thing or two about online, basically everyone on the internet is either the Russian marfia or a ten year old Asain kid in Korea. Since the internet is anyonomous retards think they can act without regard to basic human decency standards; this is why i think para 1 above is so important to be implementated...

But we get to sit safely in our own little brothels and play chess without any1 else knowing exactly whom or where we really are so while these dysfunctional retards might spoil some of my online gameing as i explained years ago to my daughter when she was in tears over nasty worthless turds; i explained these ships are nessasary so you have less competition for colledge placements and job vacancies in the future. Let these parasites just coast along and they will never be a challange to oyu or oyur place in society; and if any 'do-gooder' or "bleeding-heart" says they need special assistance thn refer them to para 1 again.

All this reminds me of Jeremy Silman book where he explains he would spend considerable resoruces TRAVELLING to tournaments and here are a few of his experiences.

1) Opponent sitting opposite has a birds nest on his head which during the opponents turn birds nest scratches into his hair and finds a 'morsel' and pops it into his mouth and munches upon it.

2) Different opponent when its not his turn loudly unwraps a sandwich and proceeds to loudly crunch the sandwich with huge bites and then 'cough' bits of food over the chess board.

More stories are listed in Mr Silmans wonderful book, but i 4 1 am happy i get to sit at home (or work) in secret safety and play serious chess online; as a foot note when awaiting my enemys moves in my online games i also 'petition' my politicial representative that these lower forms of human life should be legally mandated via legislation to become useful and functional members of society via social testing or genetic manipulation...

quicker way? It only takes a few seconds to right click and click the block member button, right?

I'm a member for about two days now and only had two opponents write something in the chat so far. One was a nice comment and the other was a few minutes ago. After sacrificing a minor piece I mated the opponent in three or four turns. He said it was luck and I play like trash. I didn't reply but we played a second game and he managed to get all my pieces and with about one minute left on our clocks he had his king and a queen and I had nothing. However he wasn't able to mate me and after about 30 turns the game ended with a stalemate. During the game he said some bad things but once the game ended he was raging on continued telling me how bad of a player I am and insulted me even harder than before. I really hope that doesn't happen too often on here :)

sorry to hear that Belisk.. after a few yrs of being here, I can't say I"ve neer had that happen, even though a few times I've crossed paths with an immature person.  Consider it that, and dont' worry about it.  :)

Online rudeness is a sign of cowardness in reality. They could say it on the screen but never in someone's face. All rude people must be put out of their misery.

Beliskner999

Yeah it wasn't like I was upset but rather surprised. I thought Chess would be a little more civilized than other games. After playing video games online for many years there's no insult I haven't heard already. I didn't know that those aggressive people play chess but I guess since it is technically the most brutal game about war ever created some people like it more than Call of Duty and such Tongue Out

Disable chat.   100%.    There is a critical mass of jerks that will be rude / taunt / distract / spam just to get a rise out of you / troll (it's almost every game at my level).    I have not once had a rewarding conversation on here.

You report them for like "move quick you're gonna lose" or way, way worse, and the mods on this site do nothing.   There is zero interest in a friendly, reasonable community - you must disable chat unless you're trying to do some kind of emotional control a***hole exposure training.
