Wow, that was a good comeback - lucky he didn't spot bxc3 at the end.

At the start, I thought you could have gained a real positional advantage. After ...Na5? Bxd7, you have a good bishop against his bad bishop. The pawn structure was fairly rigid after 9. d3, and after 9...Nc6 you're right, you're clearly a tempo up.

10. Re1 seemed a little unnecessary given the pawn on d3 - maybe it would have been better to play something like 10. Ne1, planning f4, and if exf4, you can gain a firm grip over the centre.

I think 11. Be3 would have been better than Bg5, especially given your troubles with the kingside after retreating the bishop pretty much straight away.

This is a really nice game, very hard fought. I wouldn't say at any point that white should have considered resigning in that game. When you ask about resigning at move 36, black has a rook for a knight, which is generally an advantage. But, rooks works on open files and over long distances. There is only one open file in this position and so the defense only has to be localized. This means the knight can be a reasonable defender. The burden is still on black to show that he can create open spaces for rook mobility and more weaknesses for the rooks to attack.

Interesting game and situations.  I can not help but restate an old point of why I hate rooks.  (I am sympathising with black here)They belong behind passed pawns, on open files, and on the 7th rank.  3 mutually exclusive themes.  Every time they capture a pawn, they block your own etc.

I also wanted black to try ...Nxe4 at several points, move 21, 24 and especially 23.

edit 23 may be a bit dubious

Again, fun game

My guess is that he probably could've won with 46... a5 followed by 47... Rxa2 48 Rxa2 a4.  In any case, a nice come-from-behinder.
