Good point, but I have found that jazz keeps me in the best chess ready mood!
Do you wear an IPOD while playing?

LOL, nice story! I've never tried it OTB, but I often play music while I'm playing online. I figure I already suck at live/OTB, so I should not add another distraction. >_<

Top events are supposed to ban earphones.
"iPods will still be permitted—but, earphones, needed to listen to an iPod, will not."

Thanks. I never read that before. How can you listen to an Ipod without headphones? lol

i remember some1 asking me if they could listen to their ipods in a tournament and i was confused im like is that even allowed?(in my head) then i said sure.
and then he kept looking at his ipod to change music but maybe he was looking at openings and stuff?
like he clicks on like E4 and it says the next move then if your opponent goes e5! then go nf3 etc.. :P

You know its funny because the incident I described above ... when I am usually in a critical position I need some decent music... so since I hadn't made my play list... I would reach down and change songs... My opponents were visibly uncomfortable...
I wonder if that added to them losing psychologically ...lol

Yeah lol... just don't use the IPOD Shuffle... you never know what is going on... somehow I didn't feel comfortable with Beyonce... Or Kirk Franklin screaming in my ears playing chess

I wear an Ipod when playing and i have learned through trial and error that it works best for me with Christian rock and Worship music. It keeps me so calm and relaxed.

Right. I actually really like listening to music... and now I listen to music while I study chess... very soothing... what I don't want to happen is that I get addicted to it and feel "awkard" during some larger tournaments that don't allow them.

Ive played with and without and for me there is no adjustment. And as someone posted earlier, there is always the "psychological" aspect of wearing one.

No...I don't wear an iPod when I play chess...I don't even own one. I must be the only one here who doesn't own one...

lol. Well until I find mine.. there will be two of us...
I remember when I first saw this at a tournament. It was the Emory Castlecamp Grand Prix. There were a bunch of Kids with Ipods! I thought, "Isn't that against the rules? They could be listening to some variations or something" lol. Although some tournaments don't allow it... (the higher the stakes), most open tournaments do.
I finally tried it and suprisingly I LOVE playing with the IPOD going... although there was an incident:
I was playing this local master in Pensacola, FL (AJ Golsby), we were in a "critical position..." just as I started to think...
"ALL THE SINGLE LADIES... ALL THE SINGLE LADIES... PUT A RIIIIIINNGG ON IT!" I got irritated and immediately jerked and mistakenly touched a piece... (which I dropped a piece in a game!). I played on with the basic principle (if you are down material... try to trade pawns and fight for a draw)... he wasn't going for it and I soon resigned. Thanks Beyonce. lol..
This broke my concentration as I like Beyonce as a person... but her music is played OVER AND OVER on American Radio (and probrably everywhere else)...
You see... in this tournament I grabbed my girlfriend's tender pink IPOD because I misplaced mine....
The moral of the story: If you use IPOD's don't use a shuffle and make your own music playlist before hand.
