Why do you like chess?

Hey, don't make fun of my weight problem!  Next you'll be mentioning my jaundice.

crypticplague

chess is sometimes luck... people do blunder. I like chess because it can help you at life, such as problem solving skills. It can raise your IQ, and chess is fun.

AndyClifton

I doubt that it can help you at life, and I doubt that it can raise your IQ.  It is, however, fun.

helltank

I play chess to crush puny mortals under the relentless onslaught of my pieces.

AndyClifton

...and it's apparently a considerable boost to the ego as well.

CalamityChristie

and Andy thought chess didn't help at life ... he stands corrected

AndyClifton

Of course I stand.  You ever try to sit down in this thing?

CalamityChristie

you don't think and you like chess!!!

never thought of it that way!!!!  genius!

BruceJuice

Without chess I'd have nothing to throw at people that cut me off in traffic.

At last, someone willing to take on the presumptions of the thread title!

Let me tell you a chess story.

Once, Chuck Norris was hustling chess on the street, disguised so nobody would recognize him. A gang member, with his cronies flanking him, came along and played.

Chuck Norris checkmated the gang member with the move 1.Kxf7. The gang member, screaming he was a cheat, took out a knife and tried to stab him.

Chuck Norris then killed the entire gang with the pointy tip of the king's crown alone.

CalamityChristie

if only they'd been more familiar with discovered checks (and how to set up the board)

I like chess because I enjoy the tactics and strategies involved in playing. No game involves more tactics and strategies than the game of chess.

How many tactics and strategies does chess involve and how many does the #2 game have?

I have a thread that discusses that move.
