Game with 2 pieces for Rook and Pawn

Sort:

Hi all,

I played this game earlier tonight against an opponent who was rated about 400 points above me, and I feel that I was winning after my opponent dropped a crucial pawn in the middlegame and allowed the position to simplify with me up two pieces for a rook. The problem is, I had no idea at all how to handle the endgame and ended up losing pretty badly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

47...Kf5 is fine for Black. 48. Re5+ Kg6 covers everything and Black can then consolidate with Nbc6 and perhaps Bf6 before trying to press forward again.

Ah, of course! I only looked at retreating with Kf6 and saw that Rxh5 was troublesome.
