Interesting game - not sure if I played as well as I could have though

I'm no expert but I do see a few mistakes so here you go:
- In the opening you don't want to move the same piece twice so move 4 is a mistake
- move 6 : f4 is not a good square for your bishop but this is not a mistake just not a very strong move in my opinion
- move 8: why are you moving your lady twice? What are you trying to achieve? ask yourself that. With each passive move you're losing tempo. You should be developing, attacking or following a specific plan at this point
- move 17 : I would get out of the pin right away. e4 looks like a very dangerous square for your queen and his knight looks very dangerous.
- move 18! good move
Overall you did good cause you won. A strong player would destroy you though. Your biggest weakness is lack of a plan and too many passive moves that are not possitional. I think a little positional theory could help you, look up a few GM games and analize their moves if you want to get better. Tactically you did good once you launched the attack towards the end. Don't sweat the rook it wasn't very active and you can prettend it was a sac. Pieces are just that pieces, sometimes they are not needed. I think the biggest difference between under 1000 players and over 1200 players is the newbies tend to obsess over material, good players look at the entire board and look for the strongest move available regardless of material. Congrats on the win.

1. But the e5 pawn is what make checkmate so easy, plus it places a lot of pressure on his knight which has to move to a worse square. Isn't the "one piece - one move" rule just a guideline?
2. Would d2 have been a better square?
3. The first move was to place another defender on e5 and the second was to back the bishop on f4 up.
4. Indeed, but I think Bd3 negates that a bit, because even if the knight moves I can land a check and get out of the pin.
