I hope you find the article interesting and sorry for the English, I do not know.

After the mouve 1)e4,e5 2)Nf3,Nc6 3)Bb5,a6 4)Ba4,Nf6 5)00,Be7 6)Re1,b5   7)Bb3,00 8)c3,d5 you reach this position.

9) exd5, Nxd5 10) Nxe5, Nxe5 11) Rxe5, c6 12) d4, Bd6 13) Re1, Qh4 14) g3, Qh3

This is the main variant of the Marshall Gambit.

Now there are 2 possible developments: Re4 (as in the game) and Be3.

After 15)Be3,Bg4 16)Qd3,Rae8 17) Nd2, and now black has 2 possibilities : 17)...,Re6 and 17)...,Qh5 .

17)...,Re6 18)a4,Qh5 19)axb5,axb5 20) Qf1 now black can choose among two moves : 20)...,Rfe8 and 20)...,Bh3 in either case with complications of

17)...,Qh5 18)Bc2,f5 19)f3,Bxf3 20)Nxf3,Qxf3 21)Bd2,Qxd3 22)Bxd3,f4 23)Rxe8,Rxe8 24)Kf2,fxg3+ 25)hxg3 with a slight advantage of the white

15) Re4, g5 16) Qf1, Qh5?! The theory recommends this move, I think it's doubtful. Instead of 16) ... Qxf1! 17) Kxf1, Bf5 17) Nd2, Rad8 or h6 and the position is about equal. This I consider the main variant of the variant 15) Re4

17) Nd2, Bf5 18) f3, Bxe4? better was 18)...,Nf6 19)Qg2,Qg6 20)Re3,Rae8 21)Ne4,Nxe4 22)g4,Bxg4 23)fxe4,Bd7 whit a slight advantage of the white

19) fxe4, Nb6!? 20) e5,Be7 21) Ne4, Qg6

now after 22)Bc2,f5 23)exf6,Bxf6 24)Nxf6+,Qxf6 25)Qxf6,Rxf6 26)Bxg5 and the two bishops dominate the game.

22) Qe2?!, Nd5 23) Bc2, Qg7 24) Qh5,h6 25) h4?!, dubious move, you had to finish the development with Bd2 and Rf1

25) ..., f5! now the match is open again 26) exf6, Nxf6 27) Nxf6+, Bxf6 28) Kh1, Rae8 29) Bd2,Kh8

now , the game would be equal after the moves:30)Bg6,Re6 31)Bf5,Re7 32)Rf1 .....instead 30) hxg5?, Bxg5 31)Bf4?? by now that rifles of bishops are empty of ammunition, he decided to to change one. But it is a mistake

31) ..., Bxf4 32) gxf4, Rg8! 33) Qh2,( if 33)Qh3,Re2! )Qf6

34) Rg1 ,Rxg1+ perhaps 34) Qh5 resisted a little bit more            35) Kxg1, Re1+ 36) Kf2, Qe6 0-1

after 37)Kg3,Re2....

Nice game, Monkey! :-)

It's tough (for me) to see blacks compensation in this line:

For me, this variant is new, after not having played for 15 years is logical. I played 18) ... Bxe4 knowing it was wrong, it was important to learn the reason why this move is wrong. The theory in these lines has several shortcomings for the moment: after 18) ... Bxe4 19) fxe4, advises NE3? that is wrong with Nb6 idea of returning to d5 instead is correct. After 18) ... Rae8 Black has good play is true, after 19) Re1, Bd3 20) QF2, Rxe1 21) Qxe1 white has no problems, maybe Bd3 is not a good move here to study black qualosa ... 17) ... Qxf1 does not lose initiative and is recommended by GM.

after 19)...,Ne3 20)Qf2,Nc2 21)Bxc2,Bxc2 22)Ne4, white has good position.

I'm sorry but chess is for all

second game match C89   Monkeypof-MPion

After the mouve 1)e4,e5 2)Nf3,Nc6 3)Bb5,a6 4)Ba4,Nf6 5)00,Be7 6)Re1,b5   7)Bb3,00 8)c3,d5 you reach this position.

White to move

Unlike the first game, where my opponent has opted to move 12) d4 I chose the variant 12) d3 which is just as playable. The idea is to stop the attack of the black, after 12) ..., Bd613) Re1, Qh4 14) g3, QH3 15) Re4 as opposed to variant 12) d4 now moved 15) g5 is no longer possible (the pawn would be taken) and the rook may chase away the black queen going in H4.

12) ..., Bd6  13) Re1, Qh4  14) g3, Qh3  15) Re4, Nf6 ( 15)...,Qf5 or 15)...,Qd7 is better) 16) Rh4, Qf5 17) Nd2, g5  18) Rh6, Ng4  19) Ne4,  now if 19)...,Bc7 20)Rxc6 ; 19)...,Be7 20)Rh5,Qg6 21)Rxg5,Bxg5 22)Nxg5 more precise move in the game 19) ..., Nxh6  20) Nxd6, Qg6  21) Ne4

The theory recommends : 21)...,Ng4 22)Bxg5,Bf5 23)Bf4,Rad8 24)Qe2,Rfe8 25)Re1,Kg7 game uncertain or slight advantage for white 21) ..., g4?! this move does not lose a pawn however loses time 22) Bf4, Bf5  23) Qe2?  un ottimo sistema per sprecare  il vantaggio , ora il bianco poteva sfruttare la maggiore mobilità dei suoi pezzi;

a great way to waste the advantage, now the white he could take advantage of increased mobility of his pieces 23)Nc5!,Rfe8 24)Qd2,Kg7 25)d4 23) ..., Rae8? correct is Rfe8  24) Re1, Kh8? maybe is good in g7 ; after the simple 24)...,Bxe4 25)dxe4,Nf5 the knigth come back into play

25) Qe3!, Bxe4  26) Bxh6, Bxd3 27) Qxe8, Qxh6 28) Qd7, Qg6

In 4 mosse la posizione è cambiata radicalmente , ora il materiale sulla scacchiera è pari però il bianco domina sulle case nere dove riesce a manovrare indisturbato .

In 4 moves the position has changed radically, now the material on the board is equal, however, the white dominates on black squares where it can operate undisturbed.

29) Qd4+, Kg8  30) Re5, h6 31) a4, Bf5  32) Qf4, Be6 my intention was to play a4-a5 but after Bf5 is possible to enter into a final advantageous 33) Bxe6, fxe6  34) Qe4, Qxe4?!  34)...,Rf6 35)Qe2,Qb1+ 36)Kg2,Kf7 37)Rc5,Qa2 38)c4,Qb3 39)Rxc6,Qf3+ 40)Qxf3,gxf3+ 41)Kh3,bxc4 42)Rxa6 with great advantage

35) Rxe4, bxa4?? bad mouve the game is finish. 36) Rxg4+, Kf7?!  37) Rf4+, Re7  38) Rxf8, Kxf8

Nonostante il numero di pedoni sia pari , la struttura pedonale nera è ridotta un colabrodo

Despite the number of pawns is even, the black pawn structure is reduced a sieve

39) f4!, Ke7  40) Kf2, Kd6  41) g4, Kd5  42) g5, hxg5  43) fxg5, Ke5  44) h4, Kf5  45) Ke3, 1-0

hello MI Pfren

Thanks for the post and for the advice. This match has learned many things ...

PortlandPatzer

let us hope to aspire one day to playing openings as experts by playing them (and losing with them at times) as class players, else we will never get to expert at all.

Hey, would you guys suggest to accept the marshall or to avoid it with 8.a4 or 8.h3? I have heard neither of the two anti-marshalls are very promising for white but neither is the marshall mainline. I usually play a4 but against 8..b4, I feel like black already easily equalized and is almost already slightly better, its probably not true, but that's how it feels. Fortunately nobody's ever played 8..b4 against me, but if they do, it'll be tough dealing with it.

In fact I've been playing the Ruy less these days than before, playing the Italian and Scotch just as much nowadays, mostly due to stuff like the Berlin and Marshall that just leave no room for excitement on the white end. It's a shame if I have to be forced to play d3 and accept just an "equal" position out of the opening in the marshall, because with white I like playing for an advantage but I'm just unable to find any in the marshall.

nigelmcooper

Accept the Marshall as White. It's more fun, and White gets a pawn up, so it's Black's job to prove it's worthwhile.
