I play s/o speed chess and s/t play the sicilian but he doesn;t know the second move or any thing else about it. He is good but knows no theory.

I don't mean to be rude but the way you win is to actually know the line.  I don't get how you can say your opponenet "doesn't know" the opening when you admit you don't understand the "book" refutation of their deviation.  So you can try to get a few moves deeper in a lot of variations or you can work on your tactis (since most people at our level are gonna make tons of blunders).

i really dont mean to be rude but its funny that 1100s would say that to 1800s altho u r right. but there is no OUR level

9thEagle

Why did it take you 2 years to respond to that?

Also, 2...d6 is not a made-up line... that's the mainline of many sicilians.

If your question is serious, d6 allows development of the light bishop, and prevents a e5 push, among other things.

Yes, but you are a bullet player (which might help explain why you don't know the correct response to this move) who plays against people 400 points below you, which also goes to explain why you are clueless about this problem.

The point of opening lines is that each move is meant to help improve your position. Once your opponent deviats from those lines, then they may no longer be improving their position, which means they are probably weakening it.

In this situation, it is often best to continue with your regular development unless you see a clear opportunity to gain something or see them trying to take advantage of something in your position.

Probably, it would do you well to play more slow games and develop your opening knowledge. Then apply this to your bullet games.

Also, if you are too lazy to read opening books like I am, there are lots of great videos that can help you get a grasp of openings and their over all intentions.

It took him that long to get to 1800 so he could reply with that comment.

I finally got around to reading my posts again. (no its not because im now in the 1900s) I learned some lines and you guys misunderstood the question (whoever tried answering it anyways). The question was if people dont play the lines by the book what are some ways to take advantage of that. I am not really looking into this anymore as I usually have no problem beating those people anymore.

kleelof

Yeah, must be a real challenge beating people 400+ points below you.

Hi you seem to be a move a day player or slower (i dont mean to call u out but they are usually cheaters) so maybe you don't know how the averages work but it is very simple. It is the AVERAGE level of my opponent so when you start at 1200 and play 1200s and slowly make your way up playing opponents around your rating. (I did as I started when I was around 11 or 12 years old on an ancient laptop with a terrible tiny mousepad.) Therefore your AVERAGE opponent stays somewhere in between 1200 and your current rating. With a 1968 current bullet rating (I am only talking about bullet since most of you think I only play bullet) and a 1200 start a rough estimation would say my average opponent should be (1968 - 1200) / 2 + 1200 = 1584. my current average opponent is 1594 which is pretty darn close. Regardless your deep research into my rating and opponents on chess.com is irrelavent- I was refering to somone I play OTB. But thanks for all your great help with sicillian lines you are fantastic!

kleelof

You really should learn statistics. Your theory about why your opponents ratings are so low is completely wrong. One look through your games shows you target much lower rated players with a few higher rated players in the mix.

Shah_Maht

I have learned statistics. I am pretty sure there is a more polite way to say this but you have no idea what you are talking about. I never do that nor does it increase rating. You should probably play some live games before posting. I am giving you the benefit of the doubt when I assume you don't because your rating would suggest that you either have the worst working internet seen since the early 1990s, or that you play moves at random. (Your games seem to show that the second option is more likely.) I am not sure if you posted what you have as a joke, to see if somone would take it seriously enough to respond or because you believed it. If it was a joke i feel stupid for not getting that. If you are serious than you are not the cleverest commentator out there and should probably have somone edit everything you write (and say?). Thank you for taking the time to embarress yourself online in order to help me. I hope you take these words to heart and post after you think. (BTW nice avatar.)

And you had to wait 7 weeks to post that?

Shah_Maht

Random Bean! Nice to see that you posted! Yes i asked that question when i was a young boy who was worse than you are now. (Not anymore BTW). However even than I could have givven a far better anwer than the one you just spewed. The maroczy bind is not considered a great position anymore. d6 has much better reasons for being the #1 move. And yes macer as I have said I don't read posts often. BTW feel free to comment but say something intelligent and at least read the previous posts so you understand what is flying before spewing something.

DrSpudnik

d6 is fine. It stops the e-pawn and claims e5. You can also play Nc6 or g6 or e6 or a6 or Nf3 on move 2. It depends on what Black wants to do.
