It's a tactic on a tactics trainer; not a game!
Yes, It's the TT selected edition only, but if you wanna to see how I apply the tactics in a real game, please observe the following example :

In the 6th one, sacrifing the queen with 1. Qc4+ and 2. Qg8+ is rather pointless. Ne7+ works just as well without this flashiness.

Saccing a queen feels nicer than Ne7.

In that game, 15. Qxb8 (the queen sacrifice) and 15 Ne7+ (the alternative) both mate in 4 moves.
The queen sacrifice I'm complaining about delayed mate by two moves.

2.Ne7+ Rxe7 (avoid mate) !

On your case, the force mate is 15.Ne7+ first.
They're both mate in 4:
15. Ne7+ Qxe7 16. Qxb8+ Bc8 17. Qxc8+ Qe8 18. Qxe8#
versus
15. Qxb8 (threat 16. Ne7#) f5 (15.. Bc8 16 Qxc8 f5 17 Qe6#) 16. Qxd8+ Kf7 17. Qe7+ Kg8 18. Qf8#
