One of MY best games!

Hey all!

While I'm not NEARLY as highly-rated as most of you all, I DO take chess, this site, and my game improvement VERY SERIOUSLY and am particularly proud of this one due to what appears to have been just a solid winning game with "all the right moves!"

One of MY best games!

However, being a realist more than an egomaniac, I'm always open for suggestions to improve.

Your comments would be well appreciated and looked forward to.

Good AND Bad! ;)

Here it is....Thanks!

I AM PLAYING AS WHITE IN THIS GAME.

8.Qa4+ attacks and prepares for added pressure with the hopeful Ba3, and just plans of attacking along these diagonals with help from the Knight regardless of his blunderous 8...Bd7??

Obviously 8. .. c6 was his only correct move.

IF After Black had played 8...c6 then 9. dxc6 Nxc6 10. Ba3 Be6 11. O-O-O Qa5 12. Qxa5 Nxa5 comes 13. Rxd6...and now if Black now makes a "simple natural looking BLUNDEROUS move" like an attempt at a knight fork with 13...Nxc4??, vs. the correct 13...Bxc4, then White wins immediately with 14. Rxe6+ and then say of Black's three King's move options he chooses 14...Kf7 for example, then 15.Bxc4 winning Black's Knight AND now protecting his own Rook on e6! 15...g5 and it doesn't really matter because Black is "well-done" at this stage for sure and it's Game Over from here on out!

Analyzing this game proved that Black had to play extremely precise throughout just NOT to make any even second best move that would have been BLUNDEROUS!

Finally,   after seeing the threat on my g-file, I played 29.g3. Certainly not a blunder, but clearly unnecessary. If I had looked a bit more then 29. Qh7+ Rg7 30. Bxg7 Qxe3 31.Rxe3 c6 32. Bxh6+ Kf6 33. Qg7++ would've become clear to me as much more precise. However, I am still proud overall, and in the end, I made my way work too! ;)

I'd suggest 29 Rf3 check, followed by a discovered check winning the queen. Also, state whether you are white or black. Makes it easier for analysis.

Other than that, quite a well-played game with a few blunders on your opponents part but we ll done for your capitalisation.

Ooooops! Sorry all! I forgot my screen name was different in this game! Foot in mouth

I am WHITE in this one and did go back and edit the original post to indicate that for further opinions, hopefully.

Thanks again already for your help!

Yeah, Rf3+ too, right!

After THAT analysis, it turns out a forced MATE in 7!

I just got myself in that mindset where I KNEW I was winning for sure, but didn't want to become overzealous and make "that one blunderous move" that KILLS EVERYTHING! LOL Laughing

So all I saw was a Rook and Queen bearing down on me and almost instantly, as now I recall, I played g3 to squash it.

Thanks for helping to remind me to essentially take my time no matter WHAT!

I look forward to any further suggestions out there!

You certainly don't play like the lower rated of the two players here.  You made some nice accurate moves, like 21.Qc2, but your opponent played so poorly it detracts from the overall value of the game. By 22.Bxf6 he's down two pieces and a pawn without a shred of compensation and imo should have resigned.

By the way... when I say "should have resigned" I mean, I personally find it pointless to continue but of course he can decide when to play on and when not... The worst thing of all is to lose a game which is already won. So you are IMO quite correct, you must not relax and allow that "blunderous move" which lets him back in the game. For me, I find the best mentality is to ignore how much I am winning and insist from myself that I find the strongest moves I can -- just as if the game were close.

If you want to showcase a game you played well in, just do that. There's no need for false modesty. If you want to work on improvement, show a game where your opponent didn't blunder a piece (or two) in the opening -- ideally, show a game you lost.

For your level it's a pretty good game, good job! Of course the fact that the opponent lost a piece in the opening diminishes the the quality
