Chess Addiction: I'm losing my life to push the wood . . .

In this picture . .. we see the ultimate chess addict:  Jude Acers

The all too consuming world of chess.  I think at least every serious chess player had Chess to interfere with either one of the following

  1. School
  2. Work
  3. Significant Other
  4. Social Life

I lived in DC a couple of summers ago and would play with a group of guys in Silver Springs, MD at the Starbucks.  It's really funny... we would sit out there and play all night... and if we got tired...we would travel to Dupont Circle and play more.  I'm not married, but the married guys wives would call them and couldn't believe they were possibly out until 2am playing chess!  lol.  We had a discussion...and suprisignly...each person had some conflict with chess and their girlfriend/boyfriend/wife at some point (and the younger players school lol).

So I guess my question is... how did you tame your chess bug?  (or rather... is it tamed at all?  lol)

Nelso_125

The first website I visit when I get on the computer is not google. Here is what I do:

1. Open Chrome

2.Type 'chess' and press ctrl + Enter

This works, ctrl +enter adds www. and .com to an address giving you quicker access to chess.com...I mean...the Internet. Laughing

I think they're called Philidor and Lucena's position, not defense. And yes, I'm an addict.

I am sitting here at work reading this topic, knowing that i should get some work done. I spent a big amount of my working day on chess.com, and a lot of hours after work. Every time i think to my self(i am doing it now). "you should really close chess.com and start working harder), but while thinking that i find a new and interesting post or game, and i am back to where i started.

Evaluate your position/circumstances.

Consider whether you stand to lose more than you can afford.

Select your next move/action wisely.

I thought this one might be a joke...but I'm rethinking that.

Kernicterus

Oh, I have one...  I get irritated when newspapers use "GM" to talk about General Motors...because I feel like it's initially misleading.

SeitelJN

Wow...I CAN recall everything on that list!

Chess has never interfered with my schooling, work, SO, or social life. However, all of those have interefered with my chess.
