It's not just in competition, either. I participate in discussions on two social networks frequently. Even discussions that are labeled for debate often have people upset when their fallacies are critiqued.

Maybe it's calling their points "fallacies" that has something to do with it...

once i was having coffee with a guy and he critiqued my falacies so i poured hot coffee all over his legs.

This is so true, I played a man, when he won he had a plan, when he lost, he had a headache.  Win or lose, his halitosis gave him a enormous OTB advantage.
