According to the book, the patients.  I just assumed the Cambridge team was composed of students rather than faculty, but it was not explicitly stated.

Well there's no shortage of sociopaths on Earth.  Some of them are probably psychologists; an interesting combination for someone who makes a living advising people on their behavior.
