He was crying about his situation in the game. Josh Waitzkin was losing, AGAIN. Sarwer and Waitzkin had played a year earlier in the same tournament, primary nationals ( didn't hear that in the movie, right?) and Jeff won that game. Keep in mind Jeff Sarwer is a year and a half younger without the training and privileges that Josh has. Jeff Sarwer was HOMELESS. They don't tell that story in the movie. That's the real made for movie story based on reality.
Josh was crying because he was losing this game as well. He was lucky to draw. Go look up both games on chessgames.com
Chess is enough to make you cry. :)
I thought it was illegal for some aeshole parent to pull their kids out of school.
Jeff and his sister were taken from their father for a brief time. I guess it was for not being in school and their living conditions. They ran away and back to their father and split. Nobody heard from any of them for many years. They stayed mobile.
Do you know what Jeff's rating was when he won the U 10 WC?
Seems likes I read his fide was around 1900 maybe (he was 8 when be won that). Someone said he was about 2000 strength when be had to stop at 10. Back then that rating was more significant than today. Just harder to achieve.
I was wondering cause Josh'es was USCF 1595 at the age of eight, and 2000 when he was 11. Just wanted to compare. I wonder how jeff feels about his father now.
There are some offensively stupid people on the first page of this thread.
Why do you say that?
I guess you don't have the courage of your convictions.
What the hell is an ubber man???
Well you can`t fit a square peg in a round hole. Josh made his way in life after chess and he was successful. So lets be happy for him and mourn a great talent that was lost to chess and there have been many more that were much more tragid than Josh. But he was no RJF, nobody was.
I'm losing for no reason.
