Could someone advise in what situation does a player defeating another player with a lower rating get 15 points for that win. I was about 20 points below my victorin rating. I lost 8 points for the loss which was fair enough, but my victorgained 15 points for the win.I am baffled.

The obvious way would be it was a new player without very many games yet, early games count more. Looking at what I think was the game you speak of that doesn't seem to be the case.

However, it doesn't look like that player has played very many games in 2014. So that might get scored more, similar to just starting out.

Hi Clive............Yes good luck to him..He was very pleased I am sure, as we all would have been......I feel it was a Chess.com mistake glitch.

Thanks for the input Agnostic oricle.I can see what you are saying . I guess it would act as an incentive to players that dont partake to often. I can se how it would also be in Chess.Coms interest to keep the fairly inactive players interested. If that was the case though then the ratings could become an inacurate assesment of a players ability.

Its something gotta do with the Glicko Rating System. Its called the Rating Deviation in that system. AgnosticOracle is right, the rating deviation has two factors, how many games played and how long since last game played. Your situation is the 2nd one. http://www.chess.com/article/view/chess-ratings---how-they-work
