SCID

I just downloaded SCID for use on my MAC.  I'm not really sure how to use it, as in, what it is good for.  Does anyone else use this?

I love SCID 90%, hate it 10%.

Please watch the videos that tucumcari provided links for to get a good start. I would say I like SCID for the following

1) Ability to keep multiple database open. I use this for having GM games open and my slightly more humble games open and switching back and forth easily.

2) Easy to copy/paste PGNs into your database.

3) REsponsive developer. I requested a way to play though a collection of games like a fastforward movie and I got my request.

4) Ability to plug in your own engines (Stockfish is my choice)

5) Powerful yet simple searching

6) Ability to add diagrams to my notes

7) Auto-annotate mode is nice

8) Very configurable, more so if you are willing to play around in code.

What I hate... when multiple dbs are open and you have made changes, it is very easy to lose work without warning. So many times I have gone in the next day to review a game I annotated and found that my moves were not there. There is also some buggy behavior when working on new games and switching between dbs. Then again, these are probably highly related.

Without a doubt it is worth your money :)

Oh yeah, for those of use with multiple monitors (I have 3), the multiple monitor support leaves a lot to be desired.
