There is nothing better than sitting down in your local chess club and playing OTB. There is something timeless about chess clubs.

Thanks for all comments so far.  Brewood chess club, in Brewood is my local club.  (None of you will have heard about it though unless you live really close to the place.)

Last night (Tuesday night) was my first game in the internal chess touranment for members of the club.  I was black and lost.  Despite playing chess for over 20 years it was the first time I had notated my own game of chess (before I either hadn't done it, or let a computer on an internet chess website do it for me!) and it was also the first time I had used a chess clock.

We play in some competitive local leagues, which I will take part in shortly.  We are in division 3 of the Wolverhampton Chess League, and also in a Cannock League.

An update on my progress.

I have now took part in some local league games.  I have played 4 drawn 2 lost 2 in the local leagues.

In the club internal championship matches I have now got a record of played 6 drawn 3 lost 3.

In an all play all single round robin tournament (5 minutes for each player per game,) I came 6th (out of 12) with a record of played 11 won 5 drawn 1 lost 5.

Friendlies I don't keep count of, but I certainly have won matches against other members of the club.  Just can't win any (long time control) matches that the club keep count of!

Most importantly though I am enjoying it.  So much so I have added my local chess club to this website.
