So, the big question on my mind, is there anyone on this site playing more games than awardchess??????  WOW, umm, yeah, you must have a love of this game don't you?  Well, congrats to ya, but i just dont think i could take that many.

streetfighterchess84

this has been discussed beofre i agree it can affect and not effect you my ratings goes up and down like a yo yo but when i come to playing on a proper game i still play good so i think it it is different for diferent people,i think better players manage it better because they see things quicker than say weaker players but if you look at most off the 2000 players they dont play more than a few games at once so that tells you that your point may be right,i like playing loads at a challenge and enjoy it but its down to different peoples enjoyment and i like to get my moneys worth for my membership lol

1000 games at the same time in live chess would be a new worldrecord I think. Maybe an idea for AWARDCHESS

Elubas

not really, as long as you think about each position like I do it is actually a huge help to have alot.

Don't go giving any ideas to AWARDCHESS. Greg was a Grandmaster, who spoke perfect English before starting here. Give the poor guy a break! Laughing

What's up? Wanna play more?

I believe when you play a lot of games once you learn how to analyse a position fast. If you have to analyse every position because you don't remember it your strategic thinking will improve.

You will not play like when you play only one because you don't have the same line of thinking but it is a price you have to pay.

hehe, with more than 500 games where it's your move and at least 50 games on vacation, who ahs the time? ;)

D_Morphy

I tend to play around 10 games at once, I think I could go up to 20 and still keep track of what's happening in them all.  Over that I'm not sure I could keep up though...

ozzie_c_cobblepot

A lot depends on how fast the opponents play. 30 games against fast opponents are equal to 180 games against slow opponents.

Nope we're not talking about live chess.

Wow, that's alot of opinions thank you all :), I think it is better to play fewer games.

I like 13-15. Now I have 20+  Too many

Each person is different, I personally can play multiple games without it affecting me, but other factors greatly hamper me, for instance, I play much worse on Saturday's than on any other day. I get far less sleep on friday nights and as a result I'm not thinking clearly. As long as I can remember what my strategies are, and review my move history, I can play many different correspondance games.

I think there are several factors to be considered:

Stamina: A young person who can play all day without fatigue can play much more simuls than an older person who tires easily after a few hours.

Mental Speed: The faster one can think it is possible to play greater number of simuls.

Leisure: A person who has a job which involves lot of mental work for 8 hrs a day will have little energy left to play lots of simuls.

For a person with great stamina and mental speed and enough available time it is actually good to play a lot of simuls - out of habit it takes only a few seconds to a few minutes to analyze a position in-depth. And the vast experience goes towards a high score and a prospective chess career.

However, one must be careful not to reach or cross fatigue threshhold -then the games will go all downhill.

The bottom line is - every individual should determine his or her own max limit.

Yes too many games affect my results.  I only recently restarted playing chess about a year ago.  My concentration is better with fewer games.  Also I have a life and I am able to enjoy other activities when I limit my games.

My optimal number of games is progress is low, 10-12. I cant spent more then 30 mins per day in average for play, maybe 60 when it's realy interesting situation, for I have other interests. (I also use maybe aditional 30 min per day, or 45 maybe in average, for Tacticsh Trainer, openings studies, chess news etc.)  If I need to play 10 moves per day, it is 3 minutes per move. And it means, tho haurs for 40 moves - as in a tournament OTB game. You need this time normaly for a good game, to show your real power. Normaly, sometimes I made a move in few secs, sometimes I invest one hour, even more, in a hard possition.

Normaly, you can play more games if you spent more time for it. I played more at the begining here (I played on other sites before too), and won a lot of games against weaker oponents. On the level >2000, you can't play so fast - except if your power is 2500 or so. Smile

However, if you only play games and don't invest at least equal time in studiing, you can't improve your performance so much.

i'm trying to find a happy place

25+ 1day games is rough and drains me, feels more like work just to get your moves in.

I'm at 6 now and it's too few.

vagamundo

The more games you play, the more practice you gain (like everything!) but not playing them all at once...   You play a few, analize your strengths & shortcomings to then improve.  If you play too many games at once, you don't have time to do this.
