You realize how IQ works right?  If a 4 year old has an IQ of 150 that means... that they're as smart as a 6 year old

And note too the rather evident flimsiness of the whole premise...

(But then again, I'm still reeling over the notion of there being an interesting book from Time Home Entertainment.)

A 148 average IQ on the Internet is BS... Actual average IQ is about 100, average IQ of internet people might be something like 115. I'll exclude myself from any further discussion on this thread, my IQ is somewhere between 134 and 156...

AndyClifton

So you're as smart as a 6-year-old!

I too am rather genius myself.

IQ is relative, not absolute... a 4-year-old with a 150 IQ is as smart as a 6-year-old. An adult with a 150 IQ is as smart as... well... an above-average adult.

156 means that I'm a well-above-average adult. 134 means that I'm a somewhat-above-average adult. BUT, IQ sticks with you your whole life: Chances are, if you had a 130 IQ at age five, you probably still have a 130 IQ today. My IQ was actually something more like 165 when I was very, very young (I was an early talker, could do basic math before starting school, etc.) but then eventually I evened out. It gets consistent by the time you're about 8 years old.

How terribly illuminating.  Now, if only the concept made any actual sense...

So...why are you posting here, if that's the case?

"The End?"  Aw, come on... You know this group will Never quit talking about intelligence!  You Must be smart enough to know that! (giggle, chortle, chuckle!)

Well, you proven me wrong. But although I knew (in my gut yet) that although my post was "spot on", the The End was not.

People don't want an end. They have angst form their chess losses, feel lonely because they play all alone at the keyboard in a basement or hovel, they've run out of whiskey and they've come to realize that their mother loved their older sister or brother more than them.

So, they just want to talk and have someone listen to them. You've claimed to be a shrink. See?

Hmmmm... vehree Interesting ... Perhaps zis chess forum iss like zee Rorschach Card .... hmmm?

See, I knew she'd have an Austrian accent if we just kept on probing!

(I just hope she doesn't have a beard and a cigar.)

At this point in time perhaps I should mention Lenny Cook. How many games of Chess did he win ? I don't know if he even plays Chess. In 2001 ( at age 18 ) he was the #1 High School Player in the USA for Basketball. However he was NOT chosen in the 2002 NBA draft, strangely enough. I gather that he was more of a natural player and training may not have been his bag. Also he started to get into the " Fast Life Style " that can come with a bit of fame ( hello Justin Bieber ). From a recent interview that he did on the CBC he seems to feel that as a young person he did not understand the business side of the NBA ( ie: needed a good mentor ) . Bottom Line: he missed out on the chance of a career in the NBA and his " TALENT and/or ABILITY " was not of any use to him. Rather a sad situation to be sure, but not totally unique.

It just crossed my mind ... Why am I(!) making Comments in a forum about "Average IQ Chess Players?"  I'm so clearly over-qualified!  In fact, how is it that None of you have pointed out how Obvious it is that My IQ is Way above average?

Oh, of course ...sorry ... you dear, salt-of-the-earth, average folks had no way to pick up on that... not your fault at All... forget I said anything... Smile

2mooroo

I have a 130 IQ and still suck at chess.

motherinlaw

Oh, give me a Break, 2mooroo!  You have a "sucks at chess" rating??  So my rating is .... no, do Not fill in That blank, you silly person... ;-) !

--- Thanks for the post Motherinlaw.

Odd that you should mention this problem of getting recognized as I'm having a similar problem myself. Part of my difficulty has been in the fact that my secret talent has remained hidden ( opera singing, major sports, etc, seem to be out ). Yet I have this feeling thet I'm a undiscovered Genius of some type, but alas it is very difficult to convince the peons around me of this. Life can be somewhat trying, oh well, time for some more caviar and champagne ...

IQ is simply a measure of HOW you think, not how MUCH you think.  So, IQ is not really related to "smartness".

Good point Angrybirdstar. Another question that puzzles people is the relationship between intelligence and ability ( and/or talent as well ). The new book from " Time " entitled " Secrets Of Genius " includes Tiger Woods, John Coltrane, Pele, Warren Buffett, LeBron James etc. So if I can play the stock-market or play basketball I'm a ( very rich ) Genius ???

This post is retarded.
