Yet more racist abuse.

Sort:

My subscription ran out recently and I didn't renew as there's far too many guys on here who, unprovoked, feel the need to hurl racist abuse about. Will these guys ever be sanctioned for their behaviour...making this a horrible environment to play in.

The latest nasty minded person to get racist with me is

"Deleted by moderator for naming and shaming."

What?

What reason could you possible have to subscribing... I mean, actually paying your money, to people who hurl racist abuse at you? That's just insane.

If you're going to pay anyone for a subscription, at least have them offer you something. You know, like chess.com. Yeah, you should get a chess.com membership.

I think he means that he let his chess.com subscription expire because there are too many racists on chess.com.

As for myself - I'm not racist!  I'll mate with either color!

Do you mean you observe others being racist, or that you are personally receiving racist abuse? Isn't there any "report user" functionality?

Yes, I was being sarcastic.

There are always nasty people. If you walk out like that, they win.

I understand he's upset about chess.com's treatment of these people. But even with a staff of 1,000 banning people 24/7, people can just make a new account and go at it again.

He doesn't deserve it, and he doesn't have to put up with it, but I think his reaction is unfortunate for his own sake.

And there inlies the problem with chess.com.  They have no clue how to monitor such BS.

All accounts should be tied to an email address.  When you ban an account, you need to ban the email address with it.

There is the possibility to create new accounts in Yahoo or Hotmail - for those with a Hotmail or Yahoo account, add an additional security measure, like IP Address, or the monitoring of other information like Address, Phone Number, etc.  Yes, people move, and someone else might have your address 10 years from now, but for some of the spammers (many of which come from one country in particular), they won't be able to create a new account on a daily basis to put in more dating ads and foreign phone numbers.

There are measures to eliminate this BS, but basically the staff clearly doesn't give two hoots because if they did, they would do something to stop it or at the very least curb it by over 99%.

Hello guys!  We have moderators in Helps and Support, and you reach us here: https://support.chess.com/customer/portal/emails/new.  We do everything we can to stop, mute, and ban racist users, but even so, a few reports from you guys go a long way.  If you want to help, take screenshots of the abuse and pass them our way!  We'll get them taken care of.

shaun,

The problem is that I have taken this approach that you suggest, and it lasts for a whopping 24 hours.

It goes in waves.  You get it daily for a month, and then not for another 8 months, then daily for a month again.  Not speaking biasedly here, just speaking the facts.  There have been multiple users from specifically India (or at least that is what their account has identified themselves as - in reality, for all I know, they could be from Michigan or anywhere else) that have spammed posts about looking for love and other advertising BS, and I would report these users just to see the same BS via a different account.  Usually their accounts had random numbers on them, almost like guest accounts, only they wouldn't be called "guest_5028539", they would have an actual name and a number attached to it.  This would happen day in and day out with a different number attached to the handle every time.

THAT is where I got the idea that much of the staff could care less.

And by the way, when this went thru it's latest wave, sometime in 2014, it was going on in multiple categories, typically the heavily used ones like general chess discussion and openings.

One thing that you could do is to lift the limit on 200 blocks. I know it seems silly but I have already blocked 200 people (partially because I play  a LOT of chess so I come across more people than the average user). I just block anyone who writes nonsense like that. Actually the racist stuff I have only encountered from time to time. Usually I just block people who play totally lost positions on time, disconnect intentionally, etc. But the other day I was playing this guy who was talkin about as foul as possible, leaving me 5 psycho comments on my profile, etc., but I couldn't block him.
