Audio Ads or other Yucky Things: Please Report!

Sort:

Hey Chess.com. Ads are a part of how we pay for Chess.com. But we do NOT want ads to detract from your experience!

If you find any audio ads, popups, or distracting ads, please let us know ASAP! The most helpful thing to do is:

1. take a screenshot

2. hover over the ad or click on it to find the URL / link to where it goes

3. send that info to support@chess.com

We will look into it ASAP and get it blocked!

Again, I'm very sorry for anyone impacted by these ads. That is not our intention!

Please report!

TheGrobe

I think that is also not chess.com's intention.

The user name is  Miss Beehavin. She has an app issue with her phone. I told her to re-post here, because it falls under Yucky things. In General Chess Discussion, she explains the problem in the thread,  "what do you do when your king leaves"

Eugen

There is a lot of anti-virus software with built-in anti-banner modules. I am using one of them and it blocks 100% adds and banners even if you are not a premium member. So when I become a premium, I don't see any difference in the chess.com interface :)

I got ads even though I am a premium member, but I went though Chrome and checked my extentions, I found that amazon had put a ads extention on my computer.  I removed it and all the ads dissapeared.  I now have AdBlockPlus.

You could use Adblock plus to prevent adds!

I didn't want to have to install Adblock but many times recently my game would totally freeze in the middle because of the ads.  I had to install it to restore some sanity.

derekj1978

ok. One time when I was playing in live chess, I was diverted to an ad claiming my java was out of date, even though I didn't click on anything.

How does one take a "screenshot"?

JuniorMinecraftian

Adblock Plus is old. I use AdBlock.

@ilikecapablanca- for Windows 8, press the Windows key + PrtSc.

For older versions of Windows; find the snipping tool and use that to take a picture.

For Macs and Linuxs, I have no idea.

ilikecapablanca

Ummm... where would I find said snipping tool?

Windows 7

EscherehcsE

Windows 7 is like Windows 8. Either Windows key + PrtSc, or Shift key + PrtSc.

ilikecapablanca

Um... OK. What then?

EscherehcsE

You can open up MS Paint or another graphics program and paste or import the clipboard contents.

ilikecapablanca

I don't have a graphics program, and I wasn't able to get the photo. Cry

EscherehcsE

But you do have Paint. Go into the Start button, then "All Programs", then "Accessories", then "Paint".

JuniorMinecraftian

@ilikecapablanca: press on your windows key. then type in snipping tool.

Hi guys! If you're unsure how to take a screenshot, there is a really great guide here: http://www.take-a-screenshot.org

chrka

For Macs you press Shift-Command-3 to grab a screenshot of the entire screen, Shift-Command-4 to grab only a portion.
