When I first was on the site, I had the exact same problem.
When you click "new comments" it will scroll your page down a ways and you will see "new comments" it will be located just above "my tracked activity"

I get a lot of phantom notifications like that too, only to discover that there are no new comments at all. That includes right above my tracked activity.

Thanks for your reply. Usually when I click on "new comments" it scrolls my page down a ways and all I see is "my tracked activity" or my recent activity. That is what is so strange. Like Conflagaration_Planet says, they seem to be phatam notifications.
I know what you are talking about though. Just now when I clicked new comments I DID see new comments on this post. Your comments. Usually, though, it is nothing. It seems to happen at least once a week, maybe more.

It happens to me, far more than that. At least daily.
When I log into Chess.com, I often see a notification for "New Comments." It's in that window in the upper right with notifications for vote chess moves or new game challenges. I click on read comments, but I don't see any new comments. I see the same list of my activity that I always see, but the number of comments on my posts and the dates have not changed. Where are the "New Comments"?
