Is the Earth overpopulated?

The most important issues would seem to be-

1. Pysical space to accodate the population.

2. The ability to meet the demands of this evergrowing population.

1.Although there is sufficient room to fit everyone, unfortunately barriers to free movement exists everywhere...most of which are man-made. So most of us are stuck where we are unless we are rich enough to immigrate, and are also allowed to, by both the country we are leaving, and the country we are going to.

It is not as easy to immigrate as one would imagine...even for the rich. Currently, Canada has 111 immigration applicants of millionaires who which to come to Canada. Immigration Canada (the agency processing such) estimates that it would take approximately 20 years for these to be processed. We also have countries who would not allow their citizens to freely leave.

2. Can we meet the demands of this evergrowing population?

This is even a bigger problem. Currently, the Earth can meet the demands of everyone for food, shelter, clotheing etc. However, the main problem currently, is one of distribution. Most countries follow "the Market Model"...which is profit driven, and does not solve the problems such as unequal-distribution. In order for these problems to be addressed it requires Government Intervention...and we all know how efficient and fast Government operates. It is therefore not surprising that right at this moment in time people are dying of hunger.

Even more alarming is that in as short a period as 30 years, the demand for fresh water supply will be greater than our ability to supply same. At this point...as usual, the rich will be first in line. You can feel free to read my article on this "Water...the new oil".

Unless drastic measures are taken to impact both on the demand and supply side of our resouces...our Earth will not be able to sustain this ever-growing population. The UN estimates the World Population to reach 10 billion by 2100.

The end result of course, is that unless we change the way we do things currently, we will not be able to feed ourselves and our children in the future. The UN has done a number of papers on this topic...and of course summited same to all countries who are its members...in the hope that some action can and will be taken.

First the world economy need to be whipped back in shape. We don't have to go to the moon or convert to communism,if every man worked for himself,as there is plenty fertile land out there, the primary thing causing starvation would be laziness. If EVERYONE listened to common sense,we'd be in the 50s again. But seventeen year olds are too busy protesting on why the government should force banks to give them money,so they don't have to work for a easy life.Remember,a poor person does'nt make jobs,it's the rich that strive to make more money, they give jobs in order to get that money which they can then use to give more jobs.Rockefeller,a man hated for his genious and giving nearly every penny of his wealth to charities.Poor people don't give to charity.Rockefeller, the world's GREATEST capitalist once said,"I wish to see every man a capitalist, every man, woman, and child."

Poor people dont help our starvation issues(major emphasis here),remember,a poor person can easily become rich, and a rich person can easily become poor,so don't be class-exclusive.

Feel free to poke this argument as much as you want,I'm listening.

Timotheous

So six pound orphaned toddlers starving to death in war torn battlefields are starving because they are too lazy?

I admire and idolize the creative and productive geniuses of the planet as much as the next person.

I agree that a disproportionate number of jobs are created by those with the means, inclination, and drive to create wealth and leverage that wealth to even more wealth via labor (creating jobs.)

However, I DO NOT believe that blame for starvation can be put at the feet of those who do not have enough to eat.

The world needs more organized and effective compassion, and needs a more equitable distribution of the planets resources, and these systematic problems should not be blamed on the individuals who are currently suffering in the current system.
