Thanks TadDude, but it only blocks members from sending messages and notes, not their posts on the forum.

Ah, clever! Didn't know it worked that way, thanks for the help. Then it's kinda half-working, meaning that I'd also like to see an option to not see a users posts anywhere, regardless of wether it was a topic that I started. The way that it works now is obviously the most important one, but it would be nice to also be able to block users that are spamming the forum or being generally abusive, so as to simply have their posts hidden.

That would make discussions in the forum look weird. You would see people having discussions with themselves, because you can't see what the other person is saying.

Most often these guys seem to be talking to themselves anyway No I see what you mean, but it's actually working quite well on other forums I'm on, except iMDB where there's just too many abusers posting that it's an unstoppable force of plonkers.
The way it usually works is that you see a blank post stating "You have chosen to hide this users post" and a link to watch it anyway, and the posters quotes are not hidden. On a site such as Chess.com where there's only a few abusers I think it could work.
On most forums I've frequented there's a block feature that hides a users posts on the forum. Although Chess.com is a fairly friendly community compared to some, there are still users here that seem to do nothing but spend their days writing insulting posts that fly under the radar, in the sense of being ambigous or not offensive enough to warrant moderation. It would be nice to be able to simply just block these users posts, which in turn would probably also remedy some of the petty arguing that these posters initiate.
For what it's worth, I've been a admin on other gaming forums and in my experience many of these issues can often be solved by implementing simple forum features. I'm sure that you (staff) are already aware of this, just giving it my 2 cents :)
