Standing Conditional Moves

I had a thought. The other day, a new tournament started, and I spent a few minutes making my standard opening moves, 1. c4 in my white games, and 1. e4 e6 and 1. d4 Nf6 in my black games.

What would you think about standing conditional moves? Where you could automatically program your standard opening lines, as deep as you wanted to go? For example, I could program that every time white opens 1. e4, I automatically play 1. e6, and if I chose, could then program the beginnings of the various continuations of the French Defense.

I don't know if I would do this if it were an option, but it was an idea. Any thoughts?

On the contrary - this is equivalent to building your very own opening tree.

If done right, this could really help people develop an opening repertoire. And to see where their repertoire has holes (if any).

But once you've got it fully programmed, you don't have to bother actually playing on chess.com any more; you can get on with your life.

Only in theory.

Space and time considerations would prohibit this in practice.

Maybe they only let you program it three or four moves deep then. I dunno.

You could program Fool's Mate, Scholar's Mate, ...
