starting positions for games

Hi,

I'm interested in starting games not from a standard opening position but from further in, specifically points in the middle game or opening/middle transition that are considered "equal" in publications.  You see these positions all the time in books where a variation is presented, an assessment of the position is given-- sometimes with the reasoning behind the assessment, sometimes not-- but to really get a feel for the positiona and how you'd play it (or, if it is "equal" for the individual looking at it based on playing skill or style), you kinda have to play it a few times.

Is there a way we can do that?

Nice idea :)

There are standard opening positions that you can use as the basis for the start of a game.

I, and a number of others, have suggested in the past that the ability to upload any FEN and issue an unrated challenge would be a much more robust addition to this existing functionality -- from using postions not in the current list, to handicap games, to endgame practice, to completing games started elsewhere etc.

Oh -- I don't know actually.  I thought that a shared analysis board was something that was added to live chess, but I don't play live.  Could be....

Hi Musical ... join the Red Army Group ( you do not NEED to support MU !) ... they have thematic tournaments ALL the time ... and yes ... they are great fun ... makes you really think ... especially since my first five moves are pretty much always the same unless forced to be otherwise.
