Suggestion for Tactics Trainer

Sort:

I was just browsing though Tactics Trainer, and noticed that you cannot sort tactics by number of moves? Would it be possible to add this feature so people can challenge themselves with the longer puzzles? Thanks.

How about a "review your failures" feature, so that you could rehearse those again without having to click on them one by one?  Do the failures ever add back into the system?  If not, how about feeding them back in after say 100 other tactics, or 3 weeks, or some such parameter, keeping the stats, but allowing the new (old) one to count again?

I was looking at the Tactics trainer, and it seems like there are too many possible moves, and the trainer is saying there is only one correct move. I did some very good moves that put the other king in check, or another piece in danger, and it said that was the wrong move. Also, the correct move was still easy for the other player to get out of trouble. There is more than one correct move for every situation.

You might find this topic interesting. Of course, I often get ones I have previously failed. Sometimes fail them the second time around too Laughing

If you find that to be true, you should report the problem. However, what is very likely, is that you see a good move but not the best move. If the tactic has the analysis, check it out and you will see that the line given as the solution has the best engine value, usually by a lot. Or you can put the problem in an engine to verify if the analysis isn't there.

There are some problems where the actual solution is to get mate, even though there may be a crushing win, such as a huge material gain, also. In TT, forced mate always trumps other considerations and the faster mate wins out to slower ones.

Mdgmeagher, I've had similar experiences.  I'll say out loud, "What do you mean 'Incorrect move.  Good try!'? That's a mate!  It's MATE!"  (This happens usually after I've been training too long into the wee hours.)  Then I'll see my error and humbly move on.  I do believe they go over these problems very thoroughly before posting them.  It's a great program and quite enjoyable for those of us who hate openings!

That would be a great idea! :)

I like the "review your failures" idea too, in any way, shape or form.
