A long long long time ago in a chess galaxy far far away an idea was conceived to create the best interactive chess software in the world using proven teaching methods. From that concept was born "Chess Mentor" which launched in the early 1990's.

Chess Mentor was immediately praised and was well-received by the chess world (don't take my word for it - read some real reviews). Incorporating chess lessons produced by top chess authors, coaches, and Grandmasters with a rich interactive chessboard, Chess Mentor sold thousands of copies of over the last ~15 years even when the price was well over $500! But after so many years Chess Mentor was looking a little "dated" and didn't run on some computers.

Fast forward to ~2 years ago: Chess Mentor (and chess.com) changed ownership and the new owners created new visions for both Chess Mentor and chess.com. You have seen Chess.com become the top online chess community. But we have quietly been working on launching the new Chess Mentor!

Chess Mentor is now better than ever.

  • It is 100% compatible with any computer using a modern browser.
  • It has updated graphics and interactivity.
  • It now gives REAL chess ratings based on performance and measured against everyone else who uses it.
  • All new lessons are available immediately and at no added cost!
  • The new subscription model is MUCH more affordable and delivers 100% of Chess Mentor content at any level.
  • New Chess Mentor content is being created now by GMs, IMs, and other amazing chess authors (we will be adding dozens of new lessons each month!).

We're excited to introduce Chess Mentor to you! Go ahead and try the free demo course to see if you like it. If you do, subscribe :) You will improve your game a TON and you will help support Chess.com!

Click here to check it out!!

Thanks!

I've been enjoying CM.  I've noticed that some lessons say that we can work through the variations.  From the way that it says it it seems like there should be a feature that allows you to pulls up variations.  I do use the analysis board to play through variations that are described.  Cool product.  Especially for me since it is web based.  Many chess tool are Windoze centric and this gets around that nicely.

This is a genuine testimonial by me, Makavelian. I played the demo version as soon as it was released here on chess.com. I hated it I must say. It was beating me, and in my opinion not teaching me anything.

That was until I got the full version. My original rating was around 1300 on chess.com. It is now nearly 1500 in a month and my rating on chess mentor went from a 900 to 1646 and still climbing!!!!

I find my mind can find winning combinations; in essence that is what chess mentor is all about. And just think you can get unlimited play for $15 a month!!! Thats about £7.50 to us brits, less than a round of drinks.

It's got everything, opening traps, openings, endgame technique etc etc. Very good product and will improve everyones play. For further info feel free to message me.

    I have two questions.

I wanted to subscribe the ChessMentor for one month.

    Does the subscription start immediately?

Does it last for 30 days no matter when you start to use it?

    Thanks,

I just wanted to post an update that we have spent many hours resolving all the various bugs that have been reported on Chess Mentor, and we believe we have them all worked out. If you were previously experiencing any lock ups, freezes, crashes, etc, give it another shot and please report any problems. thanks!

Chess Mentor is truly a superior training program. It is easy to use even for a novice (me) yet offers a wide range of chess learning challenges that will no doubt improve the chess performance of those who apply themselves to the program. It is very affordable. I like the fact that you can do a lesson or two when you have some spare moments. The immediate feedback re-enforces the learning process. The theme result analysis is also helpful. I am extremely pleased with this chess training program and would highly recommend it to all serious students of chess. Thanks so much to all who were involved in making this program available.

Wow!  The free preview was excellent!  It is so tempting to subscribe... especially with the hourly rate so i don't spend an entire day attempting to improve my rating. :)

Surely the number one question members of chess.com ask is, "How can I become a better chess player".  I've no doubt that Chess Mentor goes a very long way to answering that question.  Terrific stuff.

This is the best chess tool I have ever used.  I strongly recommend it to those who want to enhance their chess tactics.  It helps you think and see the dynamics that grandmasters use.   It's also really fun if you just like the puzzles.  The greatest part is you receive feedback and scores depending on the moves you make.

Very very good, compliments to all the team!

Chess Mentor seems to me a very good chess training software, I tried the demo some time ago but I do not buy it basically for missing a Linux version and for missing time for me to play with it.

Web version brilliantly solve the first problem... for the second is up to me to find the time. In any case I started a montly subscription to make a little contribute to the site and to check if I can found the time!

Looks really good - I've paid my $15 to give it a proper go... certainly seems to have plenty there to make it worthwhile :)
