Translaters Needed

Greetings everyone,

We need translaters to any language but french for ''The Rules to our Negotiated Tournaments''. Below (in italic) is what needs translation. Thank you so much in advance!

----------------------------------------

The Definition of a Negotiated Tournament

Negotiated Tournament is a tournament where the paired players must agree upon a day/time to start a game. It is crucial here that the players do their best to accelerate the process that leads to an agreement and, ultimately, the game. For this purpose, a Protocol of Discussion has been developed. See it below.

The Tournament Club, the Pairings, the Forum of Pairings, and the Forums of Discussion

An independent ‘’Tournament Club’’ (this is it here!) will be created for each tournament. Inside the Tournament Club, you will find the Forums of Pairings for each round plus all the associated Forums of Discussion. Each pair of players will be assigned to a specific Forum of Discussion and must use it to agree about a mutual/suitable starting time to their game.

An announcement is ALWAYS issued after the pairings are posted. Make sure that your Club Settings allow to receive the announcement. You need to go to the Tournament Club Settings and enable the ‘’Notify me when a news item is posted to the club’’ fonction.

The Auto Start Feature1

The Auto Start Feature makes it possible for the game to pop-up without the players taking any actionEach round of a given tournament will include at least one starting time to work with the Auto Start Feature. The players only need to appear in LIVE Chess on time and the game will pop-up automatically. No need to search for the opponent, nor issue/accept a game offer. Those starting times compatible with the Auto Start Feature may vary from one round to another.

The Definition of an Agreement

An agreement is a mutual/suitable starting time for a game. An agreement considers the starting time of a game, and never its duration. Thus, when you agree to start a game at a certain day/time, we assume that you allow enough time to complete the game.

The Theorical Duration of a Game

This is how long a 60-move game would last when both players use all their time. The equation reads like this: Td = 2X (T+i), where ‘’ Td’’ is the theoretical duration of a game considering 2 players, ‘’ T ’’ is the time allowed to each player without the increment, and ‘’ i ‘’ is the increment for each move played. Thus, the Td of a game at time control 45|45 would read Td = 2X (45+45) = 180 minutes.

The Rounds, Tournament Shedule and the Tournament Directeur (TD)

A round will start each Tuesday at 12:00 AM New-York Time = 4:00 AM UTC/GMT, when all the games must be completed the next Monday at 8:00 PM New-York Time = the next Tuesday at 12:00 AM UTC/GMT. The pairings will be posted anytime between the end of the last game played during the previous round and Tuesday at 12:00AM New-York Time = 4:00AM UTC/GMT. Each pair of players will be assigned to a specific Forum of Discussion. Those Forums of Discussion will be monitored by the Tournament Director (TD).

The Protocol of Discussion, the Initial Proposal (IP), and The First Player to Enter the Forum of Discussion

In our discussion regarding the game:

  • We speak English.
  • We use New-York Time or UTC/GMT. Note that UTC/GMT is currently 4 hours ahead New-Your Time.
  • The players must also mention which Time Zone they refer to.
  • We use the AM/PM format.

The first of the two players to enter the Forum of Discussion must imperatively make at least 3 Initial Proposals (IP), the better being when the player delivers the entirety of their available time slots for the game. The formulation of the IPs must be as follow:

  1. There must be at least 3 hours between 2 starting times of a game2. For example: ‘’I can play Thursday at 2:00PM or 5:00PM.’’ is acceptable. Whereas: ‘’I can start a game Thursday at 2:00PM or at 3:00PM.’’ is not, as that would be equivalent to only one IP and not 2
  2. There must be at least 24 hours between the earliest and the latest of the 3 IPs. (for example: ‘’I can start a game Thursday at 2:00PM or 5:00PM, or Friday at 2:00PM’’ is acceptable. Whereas: ‘’I can start a game Thursday at 2:00PM or 5:00PM or 9:00PM’’ is not, as that would be equivalent to 2 IPs and not 3.
  3. There must be at least 8 hours between the time when an IP is posted, and the associated starting time contained in the IP. In other words, you must allow your opponent enough time to connect and answer.

The Interval of Time

The following statement is equivalent to making 2 IPs: ‘’I can play Thursday, starting the game anytime between 2:00PM and 5:00PM.’’ This is because there is at least 3 hours between 2:00PM and 5:00PM. The other player may then accept a starting time inside the interval of time given, as well as 2:00PM or 5:00PM.

The Protocol of Discussion and the Second Player to Enter the Forum of Discussion.

The second player to enter the Forum of Discussion must complete one of the following tasks.

  1. They must either accept one of the IPs formulated by the other player, or
  2. ...if accepting is impossible, they must formulate at least 3 IPs of their own. And again, the best is always to put everything available on the table.

It is imperative that you answer rapidly after the other player has posted a comment in your Forum of Discussion. Regarding this, make sure you check the ‘’Follow’’ tab at the bottom of your Forum of Discussion. This will allow you to get a quick notification of any new development related to the discussion. Click here to see an example of this.

The Deadline

The players's task to either formulate at least 3 IPs or accept one of the other player’s is set to be Thursday at 12:00AM New-York Time = Thursday at 4:00AM UTC/GMT. You may forfeit the game if late.

When an Agreement Is Found

There is not anything to be confirmed by any of the players once one of the player’s IP has been accepted by the other. We assume that both players will show up on time in the LIVE Chess server on ChessDotCom. We recommend that the players show up 5 minutes before the time.

No Agreement Is Found After Both Players Have Made Their 6 IPs.

Then it is highly suggested that the players use a live mean of communication (telephone or Facetime/Zoom/Messenger) to fasten the process. If then an agreement is found, both players must post their acknowledgement of the agreement in their Forum of Discussion.

No Agreement Is Possible

Then the game is duly declared a draw by the TD.

The No Show

We highly expect that the seriousness of the players will be enough to make No Shows extremely unlikely to happen. However, in case one of the players has not showed up 10 minutes after the time, the other player may claim the win. In that case, the faulty player will forfeit the game and the occurrence will be noted.

The Game

All the games will be rated and played in LIVE Chess, on ChessDotCom. If the game is to be played without using the Auto Start Feature, one of the players must issue a game offer to the opponent. You do it in accordance with color assignment and time control. Here is how to proceed

  1. You must friend the other players prior to the game.
  2. Also make sure that your settings allow to play anyone.
  3. Click here to see how to issue a game offer to a friend.

In case it is not possible to play on ChessDotCom, the players may play their game on LiChess.

After the Game

The winner of the game (or any player if draw) must post the result in their Forum of Discussion.

The BYE

The player may ask for a BYE to any round. While a BYE for Round 1-3 is worth 1/2 point, a BYE for Round 4 and 5 is worth 0. Moreover, one can not request more than 2 BYEs at 1/2 point, as the 3rd one will be worth 0. The deadline to ask for a BYE is Monday at 12:00PM New-York Time = 4:00PM UTC/GMT.

Fair Play

The use of a chess engine, books, magazines, databases, or any exterior help is strictly prohibited. If you think that you might be tempted to use those tools in your games, then DO NOT play with us. We strongly support ChessDotCom’s efforts with their Fair Play Policy to keep our game clean.

1This feature only works when both players are NOT currently playing. Please refresh screen a couple of times after you have arrived in LIVE Chess.

2The following statement is equivalent to 2 IPs. ‘’I can start a game anytime Thursday, anytime between 2:00PM and 5:00PM.’’ The other player may then accept any starting time inside the interval offered.
