Tips On Rapid Chess

Hello everyone. Today I will be sharing some tips on Rapid Chess.

Check out all the tips below!

Tip #1: Think carefully & logically about your moves

I know, you may be excited to jump into action with these considerably slow games (10-15 minutes), but don't do it too fast! Always think about the:

  • Reason why you will make this move
  • Problem this move will solve
  • Consequences to you and your opponent for playing this move
  • Will this move make your position better or worse
  • Will this move make your opponent's position better or worse

If it fits all the criteria, for example,

  1. This move prevents his Queen from taking my Knight.
  2. No more need to defend the Knight, freeing my Rook.
  3. My consequence: My Knight is no longer in danger. My opponent's consequence: Unable to attack my Knight.
  4. Makes my position better: Does free my Rook from defending the Knight.
  5. Makes my opponent's position worse: Lost his Queen!

Then make this move. Don't worry, these steps - you can do them in your head, so it will take no longer than 1-3 minutes.

Oh, and, the reason why you need to use logic is because you cannot imagine a move that doesn't exist. Only play reasonable, strong, steady, and real moves!

Tip #2: Running out of time and can't repeat the last steps?

Sad to hear! But these things do happen. If you can do those steps on 1 minute each MOVE, then you can only make 15 moves. Impossible! So you need to speed it up. If you can't because you are a beginner, I recommend that, when you see a good move, only do:

  • Problem this move will solve
  • Will it make your position better or your opponent's position worse?

This should only take you 18 seconds. (I tried it!)

Tip #3: Don't chat when it's YOUR turn

Yeah, go chat another time! When it's your move, don't chat. Only chat when it's your opponent's move. Even then, it's still best not to chat, because chatting will stop you from focusing on the board and knowing which move is good, and which is not. So always be on the lookout when playing chess, no matter the timing! (Personally, I only like to chat at the START of the game, and when it's FINISHED. Share your theories in the comments!)

That's it for now! Thank you for reading!

See you next time.
