Bishop and Exchange sacrifice in the Grunfeld defense against IM To Nhat Minh
In round 5 of the Vezerkepzo International Master Spring Tourney I played with International Master To Nhat Minh from Hungary.
I played a new line in the opening which did not work out well. I misjudged the position. I got development advantage, but I could not open up the position to use my developed pieces. His pair of bishop gave him an advantage. I was able to equalize when he allowed me the e3-e4 break. I got a weak d4 pawn. I could put my knight to e5 or c5. I decided to put it to the center, but was better to put it to c5 to attack the b7 pawn.
I developed his rooks and I felt I needed to take action to continue my attack and I sacrificed a bishop and then got a rook and pawn for 2 bishops. He played the best moves and my second sacrifice was bad, because a counter-check at the end of the variation:
