
The active Grunfeld Defense
In round 6 of the Vezerkepzo 2022 May GM tourney I played with Grandmaster Milan Pacher from Slovakia.
I played the Russian variation of the Grunfeld Defense, which he replied with Nc6. I forgot my line, so I decided to play slower chess by exchanging the e5 pawns. It went ok, but when he played b7-b5 my typical weakening move a2-a4 was a big mistake, He could push his pawn until b3 and got a knight on c2 to dominate the position. Later he allowed me to activate my pieces. He won a pawn, but I got activity. I made 1 more big mistake, this time a tactical, which allowed him to win 1 more pawn and finish the game nicely:
