Basic Competition Rules
Touch Move Rule/Game Ending/Conduct
If there is a problem, ask the arbiter to see if the game is over while pausing the clock. If there is a checkmate, stalemate, or any other game ending, the game is over. Do not interfere with the game of other players. Don't touch any pieces during your opponent's move. Once you let go of your piece, you must leave your piece on that square if it is legal. If a player touches a piece/enemy piece he must move or capture that piece if it is legal to do so. There are no takebacks. A player must touch the king first or touch the king and rook simultaneously in order to castle. If he touches the rook first, it is considered a rook move. When promoting a pawn, a player must replace the pawn with another piece, queen, rook, bishop or knight. A player may not use an upside down rook as a second queen. Ask the arbiter for another queen when promoting. It is not required to say check or checkmate. It is the opponent's responsibility to notice the check and if not, it is an illegal move. Two illegal moves will lose the game. If a player is absent or does not show up, he shall lose the game and the opponent shall win. A win is worth 1 point, a draw is worth 0.5 points and a loss is worth 0 points. The player with the most points wins 1st, 2nd or 3rd place and gains a trophy and a medal.
