The next installment of the Open Field Media Adoption match series takes place Tuesday,  December 1 at 9 a.m. Pacific Time / 18:00 Central Europe and brings together the noted chess benefactor Nikola Stojsin and Russian grandmaster Sergey Karjakin. Karjakin, perhaps best known for being the challenger in the 2016 World Chess Championship, will be tasked with "adopting," the online term for winning 10 games in a row, to earn the bounty of $250.

Coverage of the event will be on Nikola's Twitch channel, with commentary provided by IM Eric Rosen and WFM PhotoChess (Maria Emelianova).

So what's the chance of Nikola surviving adoption vs. the super-GM? Well, according to their rating difference of 1162, for any given game we can expect Nikola to have a one out of 400 chance to draw the game, and a one out of 800 chance to win. That gives a 99.625% chance of Nikola losing the game.

As it takes 10 losses to become adopted, take that 99.625% of losing a game and raise it to the 10th power and you get Sergey having a 96.3% of adopting Nikola! Or perhaps more optimistically, Nikola has just south of a 4% chance of surviving the adoption match!
