Happy New Year, fellow readers! Thank you a lot for following my blog. I know sometimes I take a hiatus, then get back to it. I really appreciate seeing you in the comments section, old readers, new readers, titled players, or beginning players! I also try to make my content as friendly for all levels as possible, though I'd say that is impossible (but I think Magnus can learn a thing or two from my posts ).

I do want to take a moment to share some aspirations I have for my chess in 2021. After all, don't we all make resolutions we end up failing in January?  On a serious note, as I've mentioned in the past, I'm hoping that this is the year I can get back into full swing as far as OTB tournaments go. I'm excited about it. However, I will be taking my playing on a case by case basis, as it is still risky going out! Anyway, here are my chess goals for 2021:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rating goals -- I don't really believe anymore (for me personally), in telling you, "My goal is to get to this specific rating by this time". I don't have any issues setting rating goals. However, the way I see it is that I just want to get better and see where my ceiling is in chess before adult responsibilities REALLY take over! I do kinda have rating goals (although, it's very tentative due to corona), I'm not going to declare what it is, but I may or may not be secretive about it. Feel free to comment on what rating I should target. For the record, I'm 1790 USCF. I do believe it's safe to say I'd like to get up to 1800 before the year ends!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Openings -- I've talked to my coach about this a little, and I may or may not be changing up my openings and style somewhat over the chessboard. I'm generally a positional player, I enjoy grinding, but I do want to play more ambitiously!  I won't necessarily share what openings I'm working on. Is it because I'm afraid people will be preparing it for me? Ehhh, sorta, though I believe that very little percentage of games at my level/below are decided due to "opening preparation". I do believe when the time comes, my games will be out there, so you will know what openings I'm working on at some point!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Posting games -- It's rather simple ... I plan to post every single serious tournament game I play in 2021! I want to show my viewers how my chess journey is going (for better or for worse ), and I believe it can also be helpful to post games online for people to critique.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And before you go, speaking of which, if you read my post on pressuring a 2100, I'd like to shoutout NM Matthew Nicholson, @ih8sens on Chess.com. He analyzed the game and posted a 30-minute video in his blog on the analysis. I must say, very early on in my blogging career (we talking like 2017!), I read his "road to FM" series, which inspired me to document my training... which I still do to this day! So thank you a lot, Mr. Nicholson for the analysis, it was very insightful.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's all I have for you. 2021 is less than an hour away for me. 2020 is behind us. Have a happy new year, and share your new year's goals/aspirations in the comments!
