Rook Endgame Tricks When Losing
Welcome!
I've been informed I need to start my writing off with some enticing "opening" to "captivate" my audience. So... have you ever been in a lost position and wished there were some tricks you could try? How was that? Well, before we begin, I will note I've been running out of content lately to post on these blogs consistently. So, why not post my Chess.com "rapid" games? You can find an earlier post here. It's worth noting I don't do a full analysis, nor do I necessarily give you the critical moment... I simply give an interesting moment I think the audience will find interesting! With that said, take a look at the position below:
Now the position is unfortunately losing for me. If the Black pawns were shifted to the right (my right ), I may have better drawing chances, but the passed e-pawn really hurts my position. I will go on to say. I am NOT an expert on Rook endgames, nor am I some expert in salvaging losing positions... however, I will share with you my experiences from this position. I won't give it as a puzzle since the moves I (we both actually) were not all great, as my moves were aimed at giving myself practical chances...
I hope you enjoyed the example. The main lesson to take from this is when you're losing, don't just sit around and mope. Take your chances, and if you lose, oh well!
