Results of the 2009 Colorado Open
The 2009 Colorado Open was a huge success! We had the largest turnout for this event in years. The venue of the tournament, the DoubleTree Hotel on Orchard Rd in the Tech. Center, was the best I have seen for a Colorado event. The rooms at the hotel (I stayed there Friday night) were at a very high level, tastefully decorated in modern style, the resturant had excellent food and service, there was plenty of parking near the entrance to the playing hall, and there was a hotel resturant right next to the playing hall if one got hungry, additionally, on the second floor the hotel had a coffee bar similar to a Starbucks. The hotel's Fitness center, along with its indoor and outdoor pools, made it a real treat! The hotel staff was very accomodating and friendly and the playing conditions were really great!
Congratulations to GM Dasheveg Shravadorj and IM Michael Mulyar for their tie for 1st place in the Open section:

I hope the Colorado State Chess Federation will continue to use venues like this for future tournaments! This event had the highest attendance than it had in many years, partly due to the two day schedule (it gives families the time to enjoy the attractions in the Denver and surrounding area on Monday-Labor Day) and the venue made playing conditions for the competitors, and a place for the accompanying families and spouses, who were not chessplayers, which was convenient to local attractions, pleasant, and relaxing.
