Fischer vs. Spassky 1972

I couldn't let the months of July and August 2022 go by without acknowledging the 50 year Anniversary of the 1972 World Championship match between Bobby Fischer and Boris Spassky from July 11 to August 31, 1972.

The world watched the match and interest in chess certainly increased.

The match was complicated--given all the arrangements, negotiations, and contingencies which were part of the mix. Fischer's conditions and desires made the way forward rather torturous (see Max Euwe, 'A Tense Prelude' in Fischer: World Champion, 11-29; cf. Svetozar Gligoric, "Introduction" in Fischer vs. Spassky, 7-16).
