Bishops are not the greatest pieces. They can be easily trapped and only cover half the board. But if two bishops are working together, they can be quite deadly. There is a checkmate called the Boden's mate, where two bishops work together to checkmate a king. Bishops can pass through lines of pawns, while rooks cannot. Look at this game Boden played against Schulder. Boden finds a stunning sacrifice of his queen, and lets his bishops checkmate the seemingly safe white king.
Bishops can severely destroy your opponents' structure while working together. They are also really good for attacking their king! Click

Everyone says that knights are "so cool because they can fork," but bishops can fork too! Here is an example from one of my games: (though my opponent was not really playing that well)
How can you pin their piece?
How can you attack their seemingly safe king and win a piece?
